Filament for Distributors: Keep Core SKUs Available Without Loading Up on Slow Stock

Build the opening range around repeat-demand materials and colors, then use sales data to add effects. Quotation bands, export carton data and order-specific lead times help you compare landed cost and plan replenishment before inventory arrives.

01 — Segment Reality

Find the Supply Risks That Will Become Your Inventory Cost

The wrong mix ties up cash; the wrong replenishment plan creates stockouts. Review these risks before price becomes the only comparison.

PROBLEM 01

Color shift between orders

A repeat order arrives in a different shade — and your customers, not the supplier, hear about it first.

PROBLEM 02

Moisture & crushed packaging

Damaged vacuum bags and crushed boxes arrive with the freight — stock that is hard to sell and hard to justify.

PROBLEM 03

Delays disclosed too late

Production or packaging delays surface only after you have already committed dates downstream.

PROBLEM 04

MOQ surprises

A low MOQ is quoted first, then raised after packaging work has already started.

PROBLEM 05

Freight quoted blind

Freight is estimated before carton dimensions, destination and delivery terms are clear — so landed cost gets reworked later.

02 — How FilaSource Responds

Distributor Supply, Answered Point by Point

Each problem above maps to a working practice — how an order with FilaSource is planned, quoted, packed and scheduled.

  • Assortment before expansion. The opening mix is built around core PLA, PLA+ and PETG first. Visual-effect series — Silk, Rainbow, Marble, Matte — are added once local demand is visible, so slow-moving colors do not lock up cash.
  • Quotation bands disclosed up front. Bands at 10+, 100+, 500+ and 1,000+ spools give planning levels, subject to product confirmation. They are bands, not a universal MOQ, and selected in-stock products may support trial orders.
  • Carton data before freight. Each export carton holds 10 spools at 34 × 22.5 × 41.6 cm, approx. 13.1 kg gross, 0.031824 CBM — dimensions freight can be quoted against before you order.
  • Lead time confirmed in writing. Standard production runs around 10–15 days, subject to material, color, quantity, packaging and schedule — confirmed in writing before production begins.

03 — Opening Mix

A Starter Assortment Built Around Core Demand

An opening-mix suggestion for a new filament range: anchor on the three core materials, then let visible demand pull in the effect series.

Role in the mixSeriesFamilyPlacement notePlanning band
Volume core PLA Basic PLA (9 series) Solid core colors that carry everyday demand — the anchor of most opening ranges. Start at the 10+ band; scale to 100+ / 500+ as demand proves out
Step-up core PLA+ Basic PLA+ (3 series) A solid-color step-up tier for customers moving beyond standard PLA. Start at the 10+ band alongside PLA Basic
Functional core PETG Basic PETG (7 series) The durability-focused anchor for buyers who need more than PLA. Start at the 10+ band; add series depth later
Demand-led additions Silk · Rainbow · Marble · Matte PLA+ / PLA / Matte PLA Visual-effect series added once local demand is visible — attention without overstocking. Add at replenishment, matched to observed sales

Bands are quotation levels (10+ / 100+ / 500+ / 1,000+), not a universal MOQ. Colors within each series are confirmed against the current color list — best-selling shades vary by market. Selected in-stock products may support trial orders.

Distributor Questions, Answered Directly

What is the minimum order for distributors?
There is no single MOQ. Quotation bands at 10+, 100+, 500+ and 1,000+ spools set planning levels, subject to product confirmation. Selected in-stock products may support small trial orders; customized packaging uses a reference MOQ of 1,000 spools per design, confirmed per project.
How quickly can repeat orders be supplied?
Standard production lead time is around 10–15 days, subject to material, color, order quantity, packaging requirements and the confirmed production schedule. The lead time is confirmed in writing, so replenishment can be planned against it.
What packing and freight data do you provide?
Each 1kg spool is vacuum-sealed with desiccant and packed in an individual box. The export carton holds 10 spools: 34 × 22.5 × 41.6 cm, approx. 13.1 kg gross, 0.031824 CBM — published for freight and landed-cost planning.
Can we sell under our own brand?
OEM/ODM packaging is available — labels, color boxes, spools, barcodes and manuals — with a reference MOQ of 1,000 spools per design, confirmed per project. Standard packaging can be ordered within the regular quotation bands.
